School Art Festival

The school has an Art Festival each year. The students choose 2 pieces of their art work from the year, 1 to be judged and 1 for display. Neither one of the girls won an award from the Art teacher, but in mommy and daddy's eyes they were #1!!!

KA with her picture that was judged. Don't really
know what it was, but she did use many colors :-)

Her picture she had on display. The one above
her head, it is a crab!

Community Service Field Trip

Mar. 30, 2010: Emily's class went to The Chesapeake (retirement/nursing home). They had an Easter Egg Hunt for the children, a bag of goodies, and the Easter Bunny was there. The 3rd graders recited different Sound Off's that they had learned throughout the year and sang a song or 2, then the children went and talked to some of the people there. The 3rd graders did a great job!

I just realized when I made a collage out of the pictures it cut
off the Easter Bunny's head, OOPS!! :-)

Awards...

During the months of Jan. and Feb., Emily's class had a Marathon to the Parthenon. Their teacher challenged them to read. To make an A each month they had to read at least 500 pages. But they had other goals that they could go for: 1800 pages: to get a trophy, 2500 pages to get and ice cream party, and 3200 pages to have a special lunch with the teacher. Emily read 2860 pages!! She received the trophy and ice cream party, she was 5th place out of her class of 13! I am so proud of her!!

Holding her cool trophy!

Awards Day for 3rd quarter:

Field Trip to VA Aquarium

March 18, 2010: Emily class had a field trip to the VA aquarium. I was one of the drivers/chaperones. We had a great time. You can click on the collage bellow to make it bigger.

While there they were able to pet the sting rays. And they also
had a class where they learned about animals and their habitats.
One of the pictures show 3 of her classmates dressed as an "animal"
that might live in the rainforest, ocean, and desert (I think).

School Project

During March, Emily's class had a book report project to do on an animal. Emily choose a Dolphin. We had to make 23 fact cards, 1 glossary card, and 1 reference card (total of 25 cards). We also had to make either the animal or the animals habitat, we chose habitat and to buy the animal. Last, we had to write a one minute report on the facts and Em had to present them to her class. She did a WONDERFUL job!!! She read many books about dolphins and picked out the facts that she wanted to let her class know about, I typed the facts, and she cut and glued the facts onto the cards. Then as a family we made the habitat.

Finished habitat!

The dolphin and the coral reef were store bought.
Emily drew the fish (she drew 2 different fish, then
I copied them on the printer) and KA drwe the dolphin.
Em and KA both drew the shells on the "floor" of the
ocean, and Daddy drilled holes in the dolphin and hung
him for us.

The pocket for the fact cards. KA also drew
this dolphin
